Coaching is a Foul
Coaching and Time-Outs are NOT permitted during Match Play. If a shooting Player has a rules-oriented question, then they should ask their opponent. If there is still a question, then the players should ask the Captains, or Acting Captains, of BOTH Teams for clarification of the rule in question. Captains can contact the President or Vice President for rule questions.
A Player may quietly converse with a Teammate concerning their play (in a nondistracting manner) during a game when it is not their turn to shoot. However, while a game is in progress and a member of the Opposing Team finishes a Team’s inning and leaves the table, no Coaching of any kind can occur between the Teammates on the incoming Team. It is NOT permissible for a Teammate of an Incoming Shooter to inform said incoming shooter that he or she has “ball-in-hand” prior to them shooting.
All coaching violations will result in a “cue-ball-in-hand” foul.
Shooters continue to shoot even when pocketing a ball during a safety shot.
Remember that 9-ball is NOT a “Call Shot” game, so if a player legally pockets a ball in a pocket other than the one they were intending or when playing a safety shot, it counts for a point(s) for the shooter and they continue to shoot.
Please Circle and Mark 9 Ball Runouts and 9 on the Breaks
A RunOut (RO) is only awarded when a player runs all 9 balls after the break shot. Please ensure you mark RunOuts and making the 9-Ball on the Break (9BB)
Push Out Shots
A “push out” shot may be shot only on the second shot of a rack or game. If no foul is committed on the break shot, a shooter (whoever is shooting the second shot of the rack/game) may choose to play a “push out” as their shot. The shooter must make their intention known to the opposing player. When making a “push out” shot you do not have to contact the lowest numbered ball and/or a cushion.
If no foul (such as scratching) is committed on a push out, the other player can choose to shoot the next shot or make the play who shot the “push out” shot make the next shot.
