Calling Captains to Watch a Shot
Players should call their captains over to watch any shot they believe may result in a foul. Both captains should be called over. Once this happens they are considered referees and can or should make a call on the shot.
So, what happens when both captains don’t agree on a shot? First, it is easy to understand that close shots can be seen two different ways. Therefore, it is best not to argue about the shot. A discussion between captains can ensue. If there is still a disagreement on the shot, then players can choose to proceed from two different options:
1. The players can agree that the call goes to the shooter. Basically,
if one player\captain believes the player fouled and the other player\captain believes the player did not foul, play should continue with the original shooter continuing to shoot as if there was no foul made.
2. The players can agree to re-rack and start the game over with the original player breaking the rack. This option works best if there is a major disagreement on whether or not the player fouled. Instead of arguing the shot, just re-rack and continue play.
One last point, it is unsportsmanlike conduct to not accept a foul when you know you fouled. Unsportsmanlike conduct can result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension from our league. Please be honest to yourself, your team, and your opponents when making calls on shots!
